Illinois Bankruptcy Courts - Central District

The Illinois Bankruptcy Court for the Central District maintains three divisional offices which serve 100 counties. The 2003 case volume, divided by chapter, was as follows:

The Springfield Division serves the counties of  Adams, Alexander, Bond, Boone, Brown, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Christian, Clark, Clay, Clinton, Cook, Crawford, Cumberland, DeKalb, DeWitt, DuPage, Edward, Effingham, Fayette, Franklin, Gallatin, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Jersey, JoDaviess, Johnson, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lawrence, Lee, Logan, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Marion, Mason, Massac, McHenry, McLean, Menard, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Ogle, Perry, Pike, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Richland, Saline, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Shelby, St. Clair, Stephenson, Union, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, White, Whiteside, Will, Williamson, and Winnebago County. The Peoria Division serves the counties of Bureau, Fulton. Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Knox, Marshall, Mercer, Peoria, McDonough, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford County. The Danville Division serves the counties of Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee, Livingston, Moultrie, Piatt, and Vermilion County.

The Central District provides examples of petitions, schedules, forms, local rules and official instructions that may be useful when filing. Be aware that instructions provided are general, and are not a substitutive for legal advice which may provided by a qualified attorney. The Code prohibits judges, clerks and personnel to provide debtors with information that may be construed as legal counsel. This provision applies equally to debtors, creditors, and parties in interest. Individual filing pro se may call trustees and inquire about case status. Trustee offices generally explain the basis of all objections filed.
